One of the global leading pharmaceutical companies is looking for a MA leader, based in Zürich (partly remote), to boost its EUCAN Dengue vaccine program

Global Medical Affairs Director

EUCAN Medical Affairs head for project activities focusing on its use as a traveler's vaccine: leads the development of scientific communication materials and regional scientific congress strategy; leads all interactions on dengue travel activities with Company stakeholders in EUCAN, including interactions to support adoption of vaccine policy recommendations in relevant countries. Represents EUCAN on the Dengue Global MST (or equivalent forum)-Identifies stakeholders, processes, evidence requirements and other drivers to support licensure and introduction of the vaccine in EUCAN

Your tasks

  • Leads all Regional Medical Affairs activities for the travel vaccine program including the development / adaptation of the Regional Medical Affairs Strategy for travel use and use in the military segment, working in close collaboration with the EUCAN vaccine IFT (Integrated franchise team - commercial, medical and access), EUCAN functions, the GMA Dengue Lead (who serves as project GPT representative) and relevant stakeholders from Vaccine Global Medical Affairs
  • Supports the development of the regional Scientific Communication Platform for travel use, the regional publication plan (including scientific conference plan) and provides EUCAN-related input into the medical portion of the Global Value Dossier
  • Supports and works in close collaboration with relevant LOCs (Local Operating Companies) in the implementation of regional and local medical affairs activities, including the set-up and management of a regional network of external clinical and scientific experts which will be instrumental in advising and supporting the introduction in the EU as a travel drug
  • In conjunction with other regional medical affairs functions, work with countries to ensure that the country medical needs are taken into account when elaborating regional medical affairs strategies related to the vaccine as a travel drug (including the need for local and regional epidemiological data and cost-benefit analysis, etc)
  • Develop strategies and leads efforts in collaboration with LOCs to obtain national immunization recommendations for use of vaccine as a travel drug for countries in EU, in collaboration with other EUCAN and VBU functions by providing appropriate supporting data (e.g., epidemiological data, cost-benefit analyses, etc)
  • Ensure that the medical activities in the region/countries are compliant with all applicable local and regional regulations and obligations as well as in line with Company's own Ethical Guidelines and Business Practices and ensure that all relevant LOC staff are properly trained in these and other Company policies
  • Supports the training of regional functional teams and local country affiliate medical staff on VBU products, disease epidemiology and other product related issues to facilitate their launches and to optimize their safe and effective implementation
  • Establish a KOL-network and collaborate with scientifc experts to support the introduction of the vaccine for use in travelers, including organization of a European Dengue travel vaccine expert advisory board
  • Collaborates witj the Immunization Science and Policy team in interactions with European external and internal stakeholders including supranational and European organizations, funding agencies and governments on public health, medical, scientific, regulatory and vaccine policy issues to ensure ongoing alignment of strategies
  • Contributes to the development and sign off of EUCAN communications, training and promotional materials for the project
  • Contributes to the EUCAN Medical Education Strategy for dengue in general (with special focus on travel activities), in close collaboration with the EUCAN Med Comms team
  • Leads the acquisition of business-relevant information through knowledge of the scientific literature, informal contacts with key external stakeholders and through formal advisory boards
  • Acts as scientific expert/ advisor to support all EUCAN projects in medical communication
  • Leads the EUCAN Vaccine Medical Community
  • Holds accountability for the implementation of all tactics related to assets under his/her responsibility (eg. evidence generaton, medical education, publications, scientific training, insight generation) and for budget supporting these activities
  • Drives Medical Affairs activities and generation and dissemination of data supporting overall product, scientific and business strategy
  • Serves as point-person with Global Medical Affairs on vaccine-related initiatives
  • Represents EUCAN needs and strategies at global franchise meetings and relevant governance bodies (Global Medical Strategy Teams)
  • Coordinates insight collection from the field (e.g. via existing Medical platforms deployed in the field) and its consolidation
  • Implements a collaboration model and coordinate the EUCAN Vaccine community across all EUCAN LOCs (e.g. regular meetings, best practice sharing, training sessions) in collaboration with the RMST (Regional Medical Strategic Team)

    Your qualifications
  • MD/PhD who possesses at least 7-10 years of medical affairs or clinical development experience in the vaccines or pharmaceutical industry
  • Superior scientific, clinical and managed markets credibility
  • Strong leadership skills: proven track record of collaboration, teamwork, leadership, coaching mentorship, timely decision-making and results orientation
  • Experience and knowledge of vaccine implementation and public health institutions and practices in and influential in region
  • Experience operating in a vaccines or biologic multinational company environment including proven international experience
  • Strong proven collaborative skills in working with multicultural teams and teams representing diverse disciplines
  • Ability to comprehend and synthesize complex data with experience in the identification, analysis and implementation of programs and procedures required to achieve corporate objectives
  • Ability to influence and work effectively with with diverse partners, regions and cultures.
  • Desired: Fluency in English
  • Up to 25% travel requirements (mostly within Europe)
