Job description

For our client, a company in the pharma sector, we are looking for a motivated personality in Basel in the position of:

Analytical Scientist

Your responsibilities:

* Physical chemical characterization of polymers and drug products by various characterization techniques (e.g. size exclusion chromatography (SEC), HPLC, viscometers) with the aim of optimizing parameters like drug loading capacity, stability under storage or biologic conditions, effects of molecular structure (e.g. star architecture) on degradation and drug release profile
* Method development with the use of SEC combined with multi-detection system (e.g. ultraviolet (UV), differential refractive index (RI), viscosity, multi-angle light scattering (MALS)) to characterize the absolute molar-mass averages (Mn and Mw), molar-mass distribution (described by the dispersity), the radius of gyration (Rg), the hydrodynamic radius (Rh), and the subsequent conformation of macromolecules
* Set up of SEC-MALS methodology and of data analysis to elucidate the role of molecular structure in drug loading and release
* Perform routine viscosity tests (e.g. viscosity and flow curves, dynamic viscosity measurements) by various methods (rotational viscometer, Höppler, DIN 53015 and ISO 12058 based on falling ball measuring principle) and at the occurrence support as deputy images acquisition of drug products by optical microscopy
* Write and follow laboratory documentation (e.g. SOPs), maintain accurate records and GMP documentation
* Activities include supporting product development and depending on projects, also GMP analyses for release, stability and clinical studies
* Enter data in LIMS system and report the results in clear analytical reports
* Operate and maintain testing equipment (GMP and not). Troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance on equipment (GxP and not) and/or coordinate maintenance through equipment vendors
Minimum requirements:
* Postgraduate, preferentially with a completed Master in analytical chemistry, or related disciplines
* Strong background and experience in size exclusion chromatography (SEC, SEC-MALS)
* Sound Knowledge of data generation and processing
* Ability to resume analytical results in well-structured written reports
* Problem solving mindset: anticipating issues and proactively finding solutions independently
* Able to work with people effectively at all levels in international and multidisciplinary teams
* Proficient in English, any other language skill is welcome
