Background:

We are seeking a motivated and creative scientist to join our team in the Roche Innovation Center Basel for a 9-month temporary position.

The Lead Discovery (LD) department in Pharma Research and Early Development initiates and supports Small Molecule research projects by identifying chemical starting points and by providing key data and insights for their successful optimization in Medicinal Chemistry. We are a tightly knit community of many and diverse talents, closely collaborating with our therapeutic areas and other functions. We are seeking a committed and seasoned scientist to strengthen the cell engineering group.

To support in project within Neuroscience, we are looking for a Scientist with a PhD in biology and strong experience in cellular and molecular biology. The successful candidate is someone willing and able to be hands on in the lab, working on experiments and assays, analyzing data. On a soft skill, we are looking for someone motivated and willing to learn. We need someone with in lab experience but industry experience is not needed, academic is fine.

Department: Cellular Assays (PRDFC)

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Generation and characterization of engineered cell lines to study neurological diseases in mammalian cells and hiPSC-derived neurons
  • Development of reporter assays to characterize and optimize inducible gene expression systems
  • Vector design and generation of AAVs
  • Design, preparation and execution of experiments, data interpretation and presentation

Must haves:

  • PhD in Biology (or closely related field)
  • Around 3 to 4 years of experience (PhD is included in this). Please note Post Docs of around 4 years are considered, more would be overqualified for this position
  • Strong hands-on experience with a wide range of cellular and molecular biology techniques and cellular assays including cell culture, flow cytometry, siRNA/shRNA knockout
  • Experience in inducible gene expression system and synthetic biology approaches is beneficial
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and foster an environment that is open to sharing ideas, know-how and best practices
  • An attitude for continuous learning. You are a creative and proactive solution seeker who has a sense of urgency to drive projects forward
  • You are an efficient communicator with the ability to adapt to a wide range of audiences, within a lab setting, with the scientific community within and outside Roche, and with project teams. You have the ability to adapt your style to the needs of the audience

Nice to haves:

  • Experience and expertise in utilizing state-of-the-art gene editing and cell line engineering technologies CRISPR-mediated genome editing, qPCR, ddPCR, cloning, stable and transient transfection
